It is rare that we get an application from an individual where there is not some reference to past medical history. From our experience we have identified a number of the more common disclosures and the factors that contribute to the underwriting decisions.

Mental Health including Anxiety, Stress and Depression

Underwriting decisions will depend on cause, frequency, severity, time off work and treatment.

Blood Pressure/Hypertension

Underwriting decisions will depend on the individual's age, sex, actual BP readings and other risk factors such as height, weight, alcohol consumption, smoking habits and family history. As a general guide, well controlled hypertension with no risk factors is usually acceptable at standard rates for all benefits.

Asthma

Underwriting decisions will depend on severity, frequency of attacks and treatment.

Cholesterol

Underwriting decisions will depend on Cholesterol levels and other risk factors such as height, weight, smoking habits and family history. As a general guide, well controlled hypercholesterolemia with no risk factors is usually acceptable at standard rates for all benefits.

Diabetes

Underwriting decisions will depend on a number of factors such as age, date of diagnosis, family history, smoking status, blood pressure, height and weight, control, residual complications and other significant medical history.

Abnormal Smear

Underwriting decisions will depend on the degree of abnormality (CIN classification) and whether or not smears have normalised following initial diagnosis.

Cysts, Lumps and Growths

Underwriting decisions will depend on the type of growth. If malignant, it will also depend on the type of tumour.

Ulcerative Colitis

Underwriting decisions will depend on the severity and frequency of the attacks, type of treatment and date of last attack.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Underwriting decisions will depend on underlying cause and severity.
